Potsdamer Platz

Potsdamer Platz

Until World War II Potsdamer Platz was among Berlin's most popular squares. During the German separation the area was degraded to a mere wasteland near the Wall; Today, however, the Potsdamer Platz, Marlene-Dietrich-Platz and the Sony Center represent Berlin's “New Centre”: Return of the “Golden Twenties”, glamour and the Berlin International Film Festival. Created out of nothing within a mere decade, the place shows the energy of reconstruction after the reunification – architecture, which sometimes seems not to go together all too well, unrestrained liveliness with just a tad of nostalgia.
